Good morning!
I don't have much of an update to provide today, but I wanted to check in regardless just to share where I'm at and what my plans look like for the coming weeks.
RE: paperbacks and hardcovers... the test copies should be shipping out imminently, and the sooner they arrive here the sooner I can scrutinize them for public availability. Once those have arrived, I can assemble a page-specific list of trigger warnings for each version, which is something I've wanted to have available since I made the decision to publish this book. Unfortunately, due to the nature of ebooks not having consistent page numbering across platforms, this is really only something I can offer to readers with a physical copy. I've been trying to come up with a similarly accessible option for ebook readers, and I'm open to suggestions on how to make that work.
As for the next book... I've been wondering to myself how I'll go about writing this one. I was rather secretive with my process of writing the first book, as many new authors are. The fear of ideas being stolen before ever being produced is a very real problem, and there's little sympathy offered for what is perceived to be one of many "perils of the job". Now that I own the copyright for A Clockwork Melody and it's been officially published, I feel less inclined to hide it away from the world for its own protection, much the way a dragon might covet priceless treasures.
In terms of actually writing the damned thing, I'm hoping to start working on it the next week or so. Technically speaking, I have already started writing the next book, but it'll be a long way yet before it's finished. I have a somewhat structured plan for how I want the story to progress, but in the wise words of George R. R. Martin... I am very much the gardener, and how the story starts will likely not resemble the finished product very much at all. Maybe a year or so from now, I can share what I thought would happen in A Clockwork Melody and what actually ended up happening. The characters truly write themselves sometimes.
Finally, for those of you loving A Clockwork Melody and leaving such kind reviews - thank you. Please know that I've teared up every single time someone tells me how much this book has impacted them, and I'm not too proud to admit that I become a blubbering mess.
For those of you who would like to leave feedback and haven't already, A Clockwork Melody is listed on Goodreads, StoryGraph, and Fable. Some of these review platforms give limited or no information on content warnings, and I don't have the ability to update them thoroughly. As always, I strongly recommend viewing the content warnings as they're listed on this website to determine if this is a good read for you.
In the meantime, I'll be over here, plotting away.
Bonne journee,
JP
