Good morning!
As of writing this, A Clockwork Melody is now available on Amazon Kindle, Rakuten Kobo, Ex Libris, and Apple Books... though I hesitate to add the last one, due to a rather comical error in the listed price.
I promise, I really had no intention of listing this book for anything more than $8.99 CAD. I'm in talks with Lulu at present to see if this can be corrected, but for now I'd advise against purchasing A Clockwork Melody on Apple Books.
On the bright side, proof copies of the paperback and hardcover versions have now shipped to me for a final review! I will eventually be adding this tidbit to the FAQ's section on the About page, but I do want to clarify something regarding the cost of the physical copies. While I have intentionally listed the ebook to be within a (hopefully) accessible range for most viewers to purchase, I have little to no control over the price of the physical copies. The reason for this is that while ebook values are flexible, print copies are at the mercy of the distributor in terms of labour and material costs. As a result, paperback copies will be priced between $15.98 USD on Lulu and $19.99 USD on Draft2Digital, and hardcover copies will be $26.88 USD on Lulu.
I'm admittedly a bit disappointed that I can't adjust the price more than this, especially because I know that price will seem especially inaccessible to readers with the CAD exchange rate... and being a Canadian author, I have always wanted to prioritize my local readers for that reason. If there's a way I can make these prices a bit more reasonable in the future, I will keep you all posted - in the meantime, I will try to run as many promotions as I can to help lessen the financial sting.
At the very least, I can promise you that it won't be priced at a ludicrous $949.99 CAD, yikes.
That's the only exciting bit of news that I have for now, unfortunately. The ACM page has been updated with links to purchase the book from major bookstores and places to review the book if you haven't already done so. Hopefully, my next check-in will be with physical copies in hand for a sneak peek at Lulu's paperback and hardcover versions!
Until then, much love,
JP
04.10.24 edit:
I should clarify that the Lulu price are the print costs only, not the retail prices - if I purchase these myself, I only pay the print costs, whereas there is added cost for Lulu's cut as well as shipping and distribution charges. The actual retail price of the paperback $32.42 USD and the hardcover is $52.22 USD, and that's with me setting my royalties to the absolute minimum amount possible.
In the future, I would love to be able to order some physical copies in bulk and sell them directly through this website for (hopefully) a much more affordable price, but I'm unfortunately not ready for this yet - I have neither the funds nor the infrastructure for this at present. In the meantime, I will plan to offer a discount code soon once Lulu's global distribution is completed!
